Thai Family Visa Extension Services

1. Marriage Visa Extension

For foreign nationals (including same-sex LGBTQ+ couples under the Marriage Equality Act) who want to extend their visa to stay with a Thai spouse. We precisely manage the 400,000 THB deposit or 40,000 THB monthly income criteria.

The annual extension of stay to support a Thai spouse (Non-Immigrant O) has different criteria and evidence depending on legal status, divided into 3 types:

Type 1: Foreign husband (supporting a Thai wife) Non-O Thai Wife

Key requirements:
  • The marriage must be legally registered
  • Financial criteria (choose one):
    • A deposit of at least 400,000 THB in a savings account at a bank in Thailand (in the foreign husband's sole name), held in the account for at least 2 months before the filing date
    • Average income of at least 40,000 THB per month (with proof of Thai income tax payment or an income certificate from the embassy)
📋 Required documents
  • Application for extension of stay (TM.7) with a 2-inch photo
  • Original passport with copies of all stamped pages
  • Marriage certificate (KR.3) and marriage registration (KR.2), latest updated copies
  • House registration (owner's copy) and ID card of the Thai wife
  • Bank letter confirming the deposit (Bank Guarantee) and original savings passbook with copies updated on the filing date
  • Up-to-date photos showing the couple's relationship (inside the home, in front of the house with the house number visible, family photos together)
  • A clear map showing the location of your current residence

Type 2: Foreign wife (supported by a Thai husband) Thai Husband

Key requirements:
  • The marriage must be legally registered
  • Exemption: no financial status or bank statement is required (because under immigration law the Thai husband has the primary duty to support the foreign wife)
📋 Required documents
  • Application for extension of stay (TM.7) with a 2-inch photo
  • Original passport with copies of all stamped pages
  • Marriage certificate (KR.3) and marriage registration (KR.2), latest updated copies
  • House registration (owner's copy) and ID card of the Thai husband
  • Evidence of the Thai husband's employment or source of income (if available, to complete the immigration file)
  • Up-to-date photos showing the couple's relationship (together inside the home, in front of the house with the house number clearly visible)
  • A clear map showing the location of your current residence

Type 3: Same-sex couples (LGBTQ+ Marriage)

Key requirements:
  • The marriage must be legally registered (under Thailand's Marriage Equality Act, or registered abroad and already recorded in the family status registry, KR.22)
  • Rules applied: the same guidelines and criteria as for a foreign husband
  • Financial criteria: the foreign partner must show a deposit of at least 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account (held for at least 2 months) or income of at least 40,000 THB per month
📋 Required documents
  • Application for extension of stay (TM.7) with a 2-inch photo
  • Original passport with copies of all stamped pages
  • Marriage certificate (KR.3) and marriage registration (KR.2), or family status registration record (KR.22)
  • House registration and ID card of the Thai spouse
  • Bank letter confirming the deposit (Bank Guarantee) and original passbook showing 400,000 THB, or evidence of 40,000 THB monthly income as required
  • Photos together inside and in front of the home (house number visible) to prove you genuinely live together
  • A clear map showing the location of your current residence

💡 Additional cautions from ETHAIVISA

Every type of marriage visa extension includes an "Under Consideration" period of about 30 days, during which immigration officers may randomly visit your home to confirm the relationship. Preparing photos and documents that match your real living situation is therefore the most important thing.

2. Thai Child Visa Extension

For foreign fathers or mothers who want to stay in Thailand to care for and support a Thai child (under 20). We handle the legal rights documents, child legitimation and complete residence evidence.

The annual extension of stay to support a Thai child has rules that clearly distinguish between the rights of a foreign father and a foreign mother, as follows:

Key conditions for the visa extension

  1. Child's age: the Thai child must be no older than 20 and unmarried
  2. Legal relationship status:
    • Foreign mother: has legal rights immediately as stated on the child's birth certificate
    • For a foreign father: the father must have documents proving legal paternity, such as a marriage certificate with the mother, a child legitimation registration (KR.11) from the district office, or a court order recognising the child
  3. Financial criteria (foreign fathers only):
    • Show a deposit of at least 400,000 THB in a savings account at a bank in Thailand (in the foreign father's sole name), held for at least 2 months before the filing date, or
    • Average income of at least 40,000 THB per month (with tax evidence or an income certificate)
Foreign mothers are exempt from showing the 400,000 THB bank statement in some immigration areas, but must fully show residence evidence and the need to care for the child.
📋 Required documents
  • Application for extension of stay (TM.7) with a 2-inch photo attached (taken within the last 6 months)
  • Applicant's original passport with copies of the personal data page, visa page and latest stamps
  • Original birth certificate of the Thai child with a copy
  • ID card and house registration of the child (for babies/young children, use the house registration showing the child's name, with a copy)
  • Proof of the father's legal status (foreign fathers only)
    • Marriage certificate (KR.3) and marriage registration (KR.2), or
    • Child legitimation registration certificate from the district office, or
    • Copy of the court judgment declaring the legal father
  • Financial evidence (foreign fathers only)
    • Bank letter confirming the deposit (Bank Guarantee) from a Thai bank, updated on the filing date
    • Original bank passbook with copies of statement entries updated to the filing date
  • Letter from the school (if the child attends school/kindergarten) confirming the child still lives and studies in Thailand
  • Current residence documents
    • Own home/spouse's home: house registration and land title deed
    • Rented home: rental contract, house registration of the rented property, the owner's ID card and rent receipts
  • Family relationship photos (latest)
    • Photos of the foreign father/mother with the Thai child inside the home
    • Photos in front of the home with the Thai child, with the house number clearly visible
  • A detailed map showing the location of your current home

💡 Advice and warnings from ETHAIVISA:

The Thai child visa extension has an "Under Consideration" period of about 30 days, the same as the marriage visa.
While waiting for the result, immigration officers may randomly visit your home to confirm that the foreigner genuinely lives with and supports the Thai child as stated in the documents.
Start preparing documents and your bank account at least 2-3 months in advance so the deposit seasoning period meets the legal requirement.

3. Support by Thai Family Visa Renewal

A one-stop extension service for Thai blood-relationship visas, both for a Thai child who wishes to care for foreign parents (aged 50 or over) and for a Thai father/mother who wishes to care for a foreign child (under 20).

Case 1: A Thai child wishes to support "foreign parents"

(The foreigner applies as the father/mother of a Thai national)

Key requirements:
  • The foreign father or mother must be 50 years of age or older on the filing date
  • The supporting child must be a Thai national
  • Financial criteria and appearance: the foreign father or mother does not need to show a 400,000 THB deposit; instead the Thai child must show evidence of employment, income, tax payments and residence to prove the ability to support the foreign parents securely.
📋 Required documents
  • Application for extension of stay (TM.7) with a 2-inch photo
  • Original passport with copies of all stamped pages
  • Birth certificate of the Thai child, to prove the blood relationship
  • House registration and ID card of the Thai child (current)
  • Proof of employment and income of the Thai child: employment certificate, payslips or personal income tax records (PND) to demonstrate the ability to support the parent
  • Residence evidence: house registration, land title deed or rental contract showing you live together
  • Relationship photos: the foreigner with the Thai child inside the home, and in front of the house with the house number clearly visible
  • A map showing the location of the home

Thai Family Visa Extension FAQ

FAQ: Annual Thai Family Visa Extension (Non-O Thai Family Extension)

The 400,000 THB deposit in a Thai bank account (a sole account in the foreign national's name) must remain untouched for at least 2 months before the application date. After the visa is approved, the money must stay in the account for at least a further 3 months.

You must show proof of personal income tax paid in Thailand (PND.1 receipts for the latest 3 months), together with a salary certificate from your employer and bank statements showing matching salary deposits.

Yes, both of you must attend in person every time. Both spouses (including LGBTQ+ couples under the Marriage Equality Act) must give statements before the immigration officer to confirm that you are genuinely still living together as a couple and have not divorced.

Yes. When you submit your documents, the immigration office stamps a temporary permission while the application is under consideration for about 30 days. During this period, local immigration officers may make a random visit to your actual residence, photograph the couple and interview neighbours to verify the facts.

No. As soon as the divorce is registered, the right to stay to support a Thai spouse legally ends immediately. The foreign national must promptly notify the immigration office within the deadline and change to another visa type straight away to avoid an overstay.

The same criteria as the Marriage Visa apply: you must have 400,000 THB deposited in a Thai account, untouched for 2 months before the application date, and keep it there for a further 3 months after the annual extension of stay is approved.

Yes. A copy of the KR.11 or a copy of the Thai court order must be included in the application file every year as the document confirming unchanged legal paternity.

Yes, they must attend in person. The child and the Thai mother (if applicable) must be photographed together with the foreign father in front of the immigration officer to confirm that the father is still genuinely supporting the child.

No. When the child reaches 20, they are legally of age under Thai law, and the right to extend your stay 'to support a child' ends immediately. The foreign father or mother must switch to another visa type (such as a Retirement Visa if aged over 50).

The foreign parent must show proof of funds: a deposit in a Thai bank account of at least 800,000 THB (locked for 2 months before applying and kept for 3 months after applying), or a pension income of at least 65,000 THB per month.

The financial criteria are assessed separately for each individual file. This means that if both foreign parents want to extend their visas at the same time, they must use separate bank accounts and each show a deposit of 800,000 THB (1,600,000 THB in total), or each show their own qualifying income.

Yes. As the 'supporter', the Thai child must attend in person every year and sign to certify responsibility for caring for the foreign parents in front of the immigration officer.

The foreign child must be no older than 20 full years and must be unmarried.

If the foreign child is of school age and studying in Thailand, you must obtain a student status certificate along with additional school documents to prove that the child is actually living and studying in Thailand.

Generally, the immigration office considers the Thai parents' ability to provide support, such as their employment or tax records. As a result, in many areas the child is exempt from the 400,000 THB locked-deposit requirement.

Under specific rules, Indian nationals must attend in person and apply through the normal queue at the Laksi Immigration Office only; they cannot use an agency fast-track channel. However, ETHAIVISA can screen and prepare a perfectly accurate document set for you in advance.

Yes, they must be retaken every year. They must be colour photos printed on A4 paper showing the current family members together in front of the residence (with the house number visible), in the living room and in the bedroom, to prove that you still genuinely live together, not recycled old photos.

Yes, they must be as up to date as possible, especially the TM.30. If you left and re-entered the country during the year, check that the residence notification system shows your latest status before the extension date.

The official government fee is 1,900 THB per application, the same for all types of family visa.

This is where ETHAIVISA steps in to help. We provide in-depth consultation, plan your account structure and prepare safe solutions to the immediate problem, so that your financial documents are clean and fully meet the immigration officers' review criteria.

You must first pay the overstay fine of 500 THB per day (up to a maximum of 20,000 THB) at the immigration checkpoint, and promptly explain the reasons and necessity. Leaving it for a long time risks arrest and being blacklisted from entering the country.

You must obtain a Re-Entry Permit (TM.8) every time before leaving the country (single entry 1,000 THB or multiple entry 3,800 THB). If you fly out without a Re-Entry Permit, the annual visa you worked so hard to extend will end immediately (Void).

For the annual extension (TM.7) of a family visa, a medical certificate is mostly not required (unlike the first in-country change of visa type).

The officers may call to reschedule, or ask neighbours or the condominium juristic person for information as evidence. To be safe, however, we recommend that the foreign national or spouse stay on standby in the area shown on the map during that month.

Because family visas have strict rules on deposit-locking timelines and fairly detailed on-site checks of your actual living situation. Our senior consultants monitor your case and prepare the KR.2, KR.11 and KR.22 document sets, check the photo angles, and send staff to assist you in person at the immigration office, so every step goes through smoothly in a single visit without any worry.
